The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology program aims to prepare professionals who have a generalist, humanist, critical and reflective profile. The four-year program is composed of thematic modules and individual courses that complement each other through theoretical and practical classes, internships, didactic activities, research initiation and outreach activities. The curriculum structured in modules allows the construction of integral, non-fragmented knowledge, built from the various areas of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and other related fields.

The speech-language pathologist and audiologist graduated from UFSC is qualified for a career in clinical and educational areas as well as in public health. The program provides a humanist training concerned with collectivity, resulted from the interconnection of speech-language pathology and audiology with the current principles of the Unified Health System (SUS): universality, equity and integrality.

Such training considers the insertion and growth of speech-language pathology and audiology in the field of collective health. This growth has been legitimized by federal, state and municipal laws concerning the area inside the Unified Health System, such as the structuring of the National Network for the Integral Health Care of Workers, the National Policy of Hearing Health, among others.  Since the early stages, students participate actively in theoretical and practical courses and in internships that promote critical and reflective thinking related to the various areas of speech-language pathology and audiology, with emphasis on collective health.

This way, the program aims to provide students with competencies related to: health care, decision making, communication, leadership, management, permanent education, logical reasoning and critical analysis, interdisciplinary team work, research initiation, and the appropriation of values related to the social, justice and ethical aspects of the profession.
